It's been a while since my last correspondence. Happy Spring.
I was back home (Hawaii) for a bit but I've now returned to my other home (New York). When I got off the plane I had that experience of seeing my home anew. I took a walk through Prospect Park and noticed all these scents that I had taken for granted before I left. I love that feeling of being jet-lagged. It feels a little like being in a dream. Someone told me once that jet lag occurs when your body moves faster than your soul and your soul is still catching up.
When I can find the time, I've been busy working on personal projects. Some of them are published at the top of my website and others are still taking form. Video and photography are most exciting to me at the moment. These mediums got me into making websites originally. I want to walk the city and make a documentary. Maybe cameras also give you that ability to see something you've seen before with new eyes.
I started a little project recently where I've been taking photographs of people working at their computers. I visit them and take their portrait and talk about their screen time and what the future of computing might look like. I've also been thinking about how much time we spend in front of these glowing rectangles and what effects they have on our physical health. It's been fun so far and I hope to create a little website index of them all down the road. I know these ideas have been explored over and over but I'm curious to navigate them in my own way and with new tools.
If you would like a computer portrait, just reply to this email. Unfortunately, it's limited to the NY area for now. I think it would be amazing to one day get a small grant and travel to take these pictures. I also plan to accompany each photo with some writing (a small interview, a list, or something else entirely). The project is still very much in motion.
Anyways, enough about what I've been working on. If you have something you'd like to share you can always reply to this email or try my together mode - sometimes it feels a little strange writing and sending these into the universe so it's always nice to hear from people.
keep spinning,
elliott
