Dear readers,

How is it mid-April already? I was looking back at my newsletter archive yesterday. I sent two newsletters in January and none in February or March. The year started with energy but then I almost immediately felt burned out. I suppose I should have paced myself a bit more haha. In March I started having big existential thoughts about why I make the things I do. Classic artist burnout?

Over the last days I've been with Extra friends on our away day. Even though it was fast paced, I feel refreshed and a little clearer in the mind. These away days have turned into grounding moments in the sea of the freelance life. Last time I was practicing looking back to look forward. This time we squatted on the lawn of the Bilderberg hotel and in between handstands asked ourselves what the next 2 years might look like. I have a feeling this is one of those strange life moments that future me will point to. I'm not sure what it means, but I will be able to tell you in 2 years' time!

In May I will visit Birdcall in Seoul and (salt) on Jeju island. I think it will be a grounding, floating <time>. There will be days of events. Are you there? If so, I invite you to join IRL.

In March I started working on a new project called Star Star (starstar.website). Star Star allows you to turn any Are.na channel into a website. I've been making websites out of Are.na channels for quite some time, so making this into a tool that others can use felt like the next step. Using it has been giving me 2010 vibes when I was learning how to write HTML and CSS by customizing Tumblr blogs.

I invite you to try Star Star out. I hope to make it a sustainable tool that helps introduce people to HTML, CSS, and having their own personal websites.

It has been beautiful to see the sites people are making on Star Star. Here are a few:

Lai Yi Ohlsen asked me to design a logo for their new newsletter called Internet Index. I really like what we came up with. I'm excited to follow along with this project and would love to do more of this type of work in the future.

In February we contributed an index of quieter calmer internet sites from the 📒Internet Phone Book to Charlotte Rubesa's Quiet Media magazine 🛜🟦💙

Connie's inprogress.works. I love the idea of a site that circles back to you and has such a clear focus. A space to practice explaining your work to others and hear what others have been working on. Like a virtual XP :)

I came across moth-in-relay.net by Shaheer Tarar the other day. I really appreciate websites that use the viewport as a sort of viewfinder for storytelling.

I'm a big fan of this site's design and Ruiqi Ma's work. Also check out their recent Star Star site.

In March I watched some of Peter Greenaway's films. I would highly recommend Drowning by Numbers and this documentary by Saskia Boddeke. I've also been listening to Michael Nyman's music, which will make your day feel a bit cinematic.
